This private safari gives you an in-depth view of the natural history of Tanzania, with a special emphasis on both wildlife and migration exploration. The routing was designed to allow the best possible opportunities for game viewing during the months of June to October. Featuring Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, as well as the Central and Northern regions of the Serengeti.

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at the JRO Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will proceed through Customs and Immigration. Please note the Visa on Arrival Fee is $100 USD per person and is payable in US dollars, cash. In the arrivals hall, you will be greeted by a local representative, who will transfer you directly to your hotel in Arusha. This drive will take around one hour, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy a comfortable start to your adventure in Africa!

Later this evening, you will be met by your expert guide for an exciting pre-safari briefing.

Arusha

Arusha is the gateway to Tanzania's northern circuit, serving as a base for Kilimanjaro treks and wildlife safaris into Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. Transport hub aside, Arusha even offers its own opportunities for exploration, including day trips to Arusha National Park, canoeing tours on Momella Lake and Meru coffee plantation visits. For those looking to just rest and recover from jet lag, Arusha also features the perfect stop to relax and recharge, before continuing your African adventure!

This morning, you will be met by your private guide and driver to kick off your safari expedition! From Arusha, your journey begins with a 3 hour drive to the legendary Tarangire National Park. Upon entering the park, you will experience your first thrilling game drive en route to your safari camp. At the lodge, you will have time to get settled and relax, before your exploration in Tarangire National Park continues with another adventure this afternoon.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire is one of the most diverse National Parks in Tanzania. Covering a promising area of 1,360 sq km, Tarangire is situated in the northwestern corner of Tanzania’s Masai Steppe, east of The Great Rift Valley. This region boasts large herds of elephant and buffalo, in addition to an impressive concentration of big cats. Featuring over 500 different species, Tarangire also offers the best bird diversity in East Africa. The rugged landscape offers a unique safari backdrop, that blends seamlessly between rolling grasslands, messy swamps and forests of baobab trees.

Day 4: Tarangire - Crater Highlands

Esilalei Maasai Village

This morning, you will take a break from your wildlife tracking and safari tours, in order to enjoy a special cultural experience. There is so much more to Tanzania than just the wildlife, and a journey deep into the Maasai Heartlands, invites you to experience the lesser known wonders.

Your guide will take you to a local village here, called Esilalei. This rural village is scenically located in the wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara. As you enter their community, you will be greeted by the village elders, children and Morani Warriors. They will show you around their village and offer a glimpse into their very rural world. At the end of your tour, you will say goodbye to your new friends and continue towards the Crater Highlands, where your next lodge awaits.

Day 5: Crater Highlands - Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Crater Floor Game Drive

This morning, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for game driving and exploration. Ngorongoro was a huge active volcano, probably even larger than Kilimanjaro, when the volcano erupted some 8 million years ago. It's cone collapsed, leaving a crater, or more appropriately a “caldera”, 600m deep, 16km across and 265 sq km in area. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and game viewing, in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world.

Many of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor, surrounded by some of the 20,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, eland, zebra and gazelle. Flamingo, among other bird species, can often be seen feeding at Makat Soda Lake as well.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania's most amazing sights: a collapsed volcano which forms an incredible natural amphitheater, 25 km (16 mi) across and teeming with all of the African big game. Many of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor surrounded by some of the 20,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, eland, zebra and gazelle. Flamingo, among other bird species can often be seen feeding at Makat soda lake. This is an area of spectacular beauty and superb game viewing, a truly unique safari destination.

Day 6: Ngorongoro - Central Serengeti

Game Drive to Central Serengeti

Today, you will leave behind the greater Ngorongoro Conservation area, and continue your safari into the Central Serengeti. This region is home year round to an abundance of wildlife, which you will have the chance to experience away from the crowds. This is Africa, all to yourself! From December to March, the Central Serengeti is iconically known to catch a glimpse of the Great Migration.

During your stay, you may also be interested in visiting the historic Olduvai Gorge and Museum. You can learn about the archaeological attractions and visit the fascinating museum, to understand where early human tools and fossils were first discovered, including "Lucy." These incredible documents of our evolutionary history is unique to this area.

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park is the best place on the planet to admire large game. An experience in the Serengeti promises an adventure you will never forget. From one exhilarating game drive to the next, your guide will help you to track down majestic prides of lions, cheetah, leopard and much more! Each evening can be spent at your enchanting tented camp, sharing stories by the fire and enjoying dinner beneath a blanket of African stars.

Northern Serengeti

The Northern corridor of the Serengeti remains serene and quiet due to its relative inaccessibility, requiring extended drive times or alternatively domestic flight. From July through October the Migration is resident in the area and is the finest place to see the Migration's river crossings; as the herds often cross the Mara River daily. Here you'll find a diversity of landscapes - from forested hills, to open savannas and riverine vegetation.
