Discover Jordan

Exploring Jordan is a unique experience, sure to fulfill the wanderlust of any traveler. Jordan is an enchanting oasis where a warm, welcoming culture waits for your arrival. The ancient site of Petra may be the reason you travel here in the first place - a lost city rivaling Machu Picchu or Angkor Wat in dramatic beauty - but there are plenty of reasons to stay a bit longer. After all, Jordan has played host to Roman Empires, biblical stories, and European crusades. You can be sure history can be found under every rock and in every crevasse.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Amman Arrival - Dead Sea

Amman Arrival - Dead Sea
Daily Summary
  • Transportation: Airport Transfer
  • Accommodation: Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea

Welcome to Jordan! Upon arrival at the Queen Alia International Airport, you will be met by a local representative. He/she will be holding an orange sign with your name on it and will assist you through visa formalities. Once you have gathered all of your luggage, you will be transferred directly to your Dead Sea accommodations. (This service is on a private basis.)

Dead Sea

The Dead Sea – bordering Israel, the West Bank and Jordan – is a salt lake whose banks are more than 400m below sea level, the lowest point on dry land. Its famously vibrant blue and hypersaline water makes floating easy, and its mineral-rich black mud is used for therapeutic and cosmetic treatments at area resorts. The extreme salinity of the water comes from the high evaporation rate. This salinity makes for an almost intolerable environment most living organisms.

Otherwise, it is best to leave them in a locker at the visitor center. You can also rent water shoes here. The trail starts at the visitor center near the Mujib Bridge, where you will take the cantilevered walkway over the dam and follow the course of the river between towering sandstone cliffs to the base of a large waterfall. Depending on seasonal rainfall levels, the gorge may contain pools deep enough for swimming.

Once you have made it back to the visitors' center, you will be transferred to Bethany for an afternoon exploration. Situated in a pristine natural environment, the site is believed to be the location where Jesus of Nazareth was baptized by John the Baptist. It features Roman and Byzantine remains, including churches and chapels, a monastery, caves that have been used by hermits and pools in which baptisms were celebrated, testifying to the religious character of the place.
