The Other Side of Galapagos - Land Based Adventure

Enjoy a taste of the Galapagos with this 5-day program, using Santa Cruz island as your base for exploration. The journey begins as you venture up into the highlands, for a two-night stay at the amazing Galapagos Magic Tented Camp. Board a motor yacht for a day cruise and explore one of the neighboring uninhabited islands. After a few nights immersed in nature, you'll enjoy the second half of your stay in the charming port town of Puerto Ayora. You will swim and kayak in the stunning water blue waters and relax on white sandy beaches, hike to incredible viewpoints, and if you're lucky you may even catch a glimpse of one of the island's resident pink flamingos. Please note that this itinerary is offered as a shared set group departure, so you will be joining other travelers on your journey!

Day 1: Baltra Arrival - Santa Cruz

Welcome to the Galapagos! You will be picked up at the airport in Baltra and transferred to your accommodations on Sant Cruz Island. (This service is on a group basis.)

Galapagos Magic Lodge is a safari-style tented camp perched high on Santa Cruz overlooking the ocean. The sounds of nature will serenade us and we’ll be able to feast our eyes on the mountains and forests surrounding the Camp. Also, enjoy the peace of having the entire hillside to ourselves, with the exception of seasonal resident giant tortoises.

Day 2: Santa Cruz

Yacht Cruise to a Neighboring Island

Today you will embark on a motor yacht cruise to enjoy a half-day excursion to one of the neighboring islands. Onboard you will have the support of welcoming crew members and knowledgeable naturalist guide, to allow you to experience the wonders of these remote islands in both comfort and style. Day 3: Santa Cruz

Day 4: Santa Cruz

Today you will have multiple activity options to choose from! We have selected a suggested activity to give you an idea of what is possible to do with this day (Please Note: This activity can be replaced with the other activity option noted below. Please let your travel specialist know your activity preference during the planning process).

Walk to Las Grietas and Tortuga Bay

From Puerto Ayora main pier you will take a water taxi to the “Other Side Pier”. At this point you will start an easy walk for about 1 Km (~0.6 mile) until you reach Las Grietas. This is a stunning geological formation named as fissure where you can see two impressive rock walls with an elongated crystal clear water pond ideal for snorkeling. The Research Center offers a brand new Interpretation Center with some of the most important samples of the Center Collection.

Later, you will visit Tortuga Bay. After walking through a deciduous forest for 2.5 Km (~1.5 miles) you will reach one of the most beautiful beaches in the archipelago. You will continue walking along this white sand beach for another 1 Km (~0.6 mile) until you reach the Playa Mansa where you can enjoy a special kayaking ride around the Bay. (This service is on a private basis.)

Coffee & Sugar Production + Charles Darwin Research Station

In the morning, visit Organic Coffee Farm & Sugar Cane mill. Departure from your hotel towards the farming area of El Cascajo. Visit one of the most traditional farms in the area where you can find real organic coffee and sugar cane plantations. You will learn all about the coffee and sugar cane growing and production process including a handcrafted sugar cane mill and distillery where the farmers produce a traditional sugar cane liquor.

Later, visit to Charles Darwin Research Station. The Charles Darwin Research Center is the matrix of all the scientific research in the Galapagos Islands. It is from these headquarters from where all the most sensitive conservation projects are being directed. The conservation and preservation of giant tortoises, marine iguanas among others are some of the examples of the Center labor. You can walk along the core of the Research Center where you can find the corrals where the giant tortoises are being bred as well as the corrals where the land iguanas are being studied. The Research Center offers a brand new Interpretation Center with some of the most important samples of the Center Collection.

Afterward, visit a woodworking shop. These Galapagueños artists use cedrella´s wood, a wood species that was introduced to the Galapagos several years ago. These artists have dedicated their lives to capturing the flora and fauna of the Galapagos in their work. (This service is on a private basis.)

Day 5: Santa Cruz - Baltra Departure

Although your adventure must come to an end today, you will be leaving with new friends, amazing experiences and memories to cherish for the rest of your life. Once you have checked out of your hotel, you will be met and driven to the Baltra Airport in good time to board your flight back to the mainland.

The Galapagos Magic Tented Camp is a tortoise camp, perched in the highlands of Santa Cruz and surrounded by a Scalesia forest and volcanic caves. This is the native habitat for wild tortoises, where you will be able to enjoy an intimate encounter with nature. The areas around the campsite are home to several dozen giant tortoises, seen roaming around property from June through February. During the months of March, April and May the giant tortoises generally move to lower elevations, though a handful sometimes remain, so keep your eyes out!
