It has approximately 227,298 hectares and altitudes that vary between 50 and 3,050 meters (10,000ft) with its main characteristics of forests, tundra, mountains, ice fields, rivers, lakes, and moraines. Its natural origin dates from 12,000 years ago, when the first settlers arrived in the “Austral” Patagonia (southernmost), followed by Tehuelches (“People of the South” in Mapudungun), who inhabited a big area of the park. The use of the land for breeding cattle and the damages that this caused in some areas made the government and community be concerned about the preservation of such a rich and attractive zone. Today, the park is home to the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
