On this twelve day trip, explore two distinct locations in Chile. The Atacama Desert is an alien landscape, where the country's largest salt flat is a short drive away from steaming geysers, and a half day's hike away from bubbling volcanoes. From here, make your way across the country to Torres del Paine National Park, Chile's best national park. This is Patagonia at its finest, watched over by the beautiful Towers of Paine, and dotted with deep blue lakes, green hills, and white capped mountain peaks. These are the landscapes that define Chile as the final frontier. The edge of the map is rugged and wild, and a perfect playground for the adventurers-at-heart.
Upon arrival at the airport in Santiago a private transfer with guide will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel in Santiago.
This afternoon, enjoy a half day city tour of "Classic Santiago". The tour will reveal a sophisticated city of color and contrast. Take in the classic city landmarks - the old district with its provincial atmosphere; the sophisticated, European style modern districts of Vitacura, Las Condes and Providencia; the Spanish colonial churches and gardens. Stroll through La Moneda Presidential Palace, a stately-looking building, representing the official seat of the Chilean government. Built in 1784 by Joaquin Toescai, it was originally the National Mint, hence its name: the Coin Palace. Visit Club Hipico Racecourse, opened in 1870. The building was constructed by the architect Josue Smith and is based on the design of the French racecourse Long Champs. Its parks and gardens are in French baroque style and are incorporated into the building by means of a terrace and staircase. Enjoy a short walk and savor the panoramic views from the crest of San Cristobal Hill. At its summit, a 36m-high (120ft) white statue of the Virgin Mary dominates the horizon.
Transfer back to the airport on your own for your flight to Calama. On arrival you will be met by your private driver and transferred to your hotel. (1 hour, 15 minute drive)
Your time at Tierra Atacama will be spent on a wide range of activities to choose from. Take 4WD drive vehicles to the Altiplanic Lagoons, Salar de Tara, The Tatio Geisers, Machuca, Puritama Hot Springs, Moon Valley or the Chaxa Lagoon & Flamingo Reserve.
You may also wish to go on mountain bike tours to Devil's Canyon, Moon Valley, or through the Ayllus and Atacameñan Communities.
Enjoy these full days embarking on tours, activities and excursions on offer at your hotel.
Go volcano hiking to reach the craters of Lascar and Toco. We can also arrange a selection of horseback rides with Atacameñan horses. Our saddles are Chilean (Western) style. The horses are mounted at the hotel and we travel with our guide to discover the desert scenery, gallop over the sand dunes and enjoy the views.
If you are interested in bird watching, places such as the Nacimiento and Guatin canyons, the Atacama Salt Flat and northern Chilean Altiplano are habitats which house a wide variety of differing species of birds. For example, the Salt Flats are home to the Chilean flamingo, Andean flamingo, Andean avocet and Puna Plover. The open altiplano wetlands houses Andean geese, Rufous-bellied Seedsnipes, Golden-spotted Ground-doves and Ochre-naped Ground-tyrants amongst others. Other species to be found in the area include the Chiguanco Thrush, Cordilleran Canastero, Scale-throated Earthcreeper, Andean Negrito and Horned Coot amongst many others. The time of year, migratory cycles, availability of food, temperature, altitude, etc., are all determining factors when bird-watching.
Activities that explore the flora and fauna of the area, or history and culture are also on offer, as well as night tours and star gazing.

At Tierra Patagonia, there are a range of included activities to choose from. You may wish to to take a half day walk on arrival like the "Backyard Walk". This walk is perfect for stretching your legs on arrival at Tierra Patagonia. Head towards the lake shore and the boundary of the Torres del Paine National Park; pass through areas of low bush, with panoramic views of Lake Sarmiento. From the surrounds of the hotel, the architecture can be seen to melt into the surrounding pampa whilst the dramatic skyline of the Sierra Baguales behind can be seen, separating Chile from Argentina. The element that most stands out during this walk are the thrombolytes, geographic formations which are several million years old. They were created by some of the oldest living organisms on the face of the earth. The lake shore is full of them and the caves hide the most important predator in the park, the puma. This is the hotel’s garden and it is common to see wildlife such as eagles, condors, guanaco, sheep, foxes and ñandú (a type of ostrich) as well as the amazing view of the Torres del Paine mountain range.
There are a number of other half day walks to choose from including Mirador Cuernos, Hunters Trail, Condoreras, Origins of Life. And there are full day walks like Paso de la Guitarra, Pingo & Grey Valley Peninsula, Paso de Agostini, Glaciar Grey (extra cost), Mirador Ferrier & Grey Peninsula, French Valley, Cerro Guido or Base of The Torres.
Enjoy these full free days going on excursions offered at your hotel.
You may wish to take horseback rides. Horseback riding is one of the unique and unforgettable experiences in Patagonia, as much so for beginners as for experienced riders. Most of our rides take place from Cerro Guido. The private land of this estancia or Patagonian Ranch extends more than 100,000 hectares and the local gauchos (cowboys) accompany us on this adventure at “the uttermost ends of the earth.” The horses of the ranch were born and raised in this wild terrain and have been specially trained so anyone may ride here, even if they have no previous experience. Riding here means you can experience this special part of Patagonia like the locals do, on horseback with them at your side.
Scenic voyages to Laguna Azul, Salto Grande, Estancia Cerro Guido, Paine Massif, Milodon Cave and Puerto Natales are available as well. These trips are a perfect balance between an excursion by van and shorter easy walks. Ideal for those who enjoy photography and bird watching.
Today, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your departing flight to Santiago. On arrival, transfer on your own the airport hotel.
Today, at the appropriate time, you will cross the street to the airport for your departing flight. We hope you enjoyed this amazing experience and we wish you a pleasant flight home.
