Rancho de Caldera

Rancho de Caldera is an eco-resort located in the mountains of Chiriqui, Panama. In this small solar powered sustainable hotel resort you'll enjoy staying in cozy bungalow suites and dine in one of Panama's most acclaimed gourmet restaurants Madre Tierra, run by Chef Craig Miller from the US.

All 9 villas have large, covered porches for bird and nature watching, as well as afternoon siestas... Each of the villas has a 20' wall of glass, which allows for the enjoyment of spectacular sunrises from the comfort of your bed. For those with more limited budgets, there are 2 discount rooms in the main house.

Facilities include an infinity edge pool with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains, a conference room with audio/video equipment, and hiking trails.

The goal at Rancho de Caldera is to be completely self-sustainable by producing everything themselves; electricity, biodiesel, produce, meats, cheeses and animal forage. They want to serve as a model for those interested in independent living in a world of dwindling resources. The Ranch achieved its Green Globe Certification in 2009. To certify sustainability and green management, they must adhere to a majority of the many criteria included in the Green Globe Standard – which is based on internationally accepted and recognized documentation. Some of its green initiatives include: Recycling, Composting, Renewable Energy Sources, Hiring and Training of Local Residents and Home Grown or Locally Purchased Food.

Despite the fact that the resort is completely off the grid (using a combination of hydro-electric power, wind power and solar power), the 9 well-appointed villas boast such amenities as air conditioning, wireless Internet, iPod docking stations, satellite TV and small kitchenettes.

At the Ranch you can enjoy activities including horseback riding, hiking, birding, cloud watching, lounging by the pool, swimming, massages, Yoga and experiencing the creative international cuisine at the restaurant. The Hotel also hosts several workshops and special retreats.
