Hacienda Bambusa is located in the south of what is locally called the “ejecafetero” or “coffee country," blessed with an agreeable subtropical climate. When you come upon the Hacienda you are instantly immersed by a maze of plantain, yucca, orange, and pineapple cultivation. Smaller roads lead to further surprises. Surrounded by bamboo forests, rivers and streams, it is a farm dedicated to livestock and food production such as cocoa, ginger, banana and tangerine.
The landscape is breathtaking and its diversity of flora and fauna make it a little paradise. Among its many charms are the presence of exotic flowers like heliconias, more than 100 species of birds and a large number of mammals such as monkeys, foxes, armadillos and agouti.
Immersed in this grand Hacienda, the main house is built of bamboo and clay tiles in the traditional manner of the region's coffee culture. It is surrounded by huge Andean mountains, enormous trees, exotic gardens and crops - an oasis of tranquility and natural beauty. The lodge's management spent six years redesigning the building to receive guests and have established it as the ideal destination for visitors to Quindio.
They have only seven guest rooms; each impeccably arranged, spacious and comfortable, ideally prepared for rest and relaxation. Each has a private balcony with a sitting area and hammocks overlooking the pool or gardens. All our rooms have special linens, satellite television and free WiFi signal. Some rooms are only for couples and others can accommodate a family.
Region: South America
Guests of Hacienda Bambusa are welcome to embark on full and half day excursions during their stay, such as:
- The Complete Coffee Cultivation Experience
- Columbian cooking classes
- Hikes and walks around the Hacienda's awe inspiring property, and nearby towns
The coffee region of Columbia in general has a very pleasant climate all year round. Hacienda Bambusa is located in the southern portion of the region and hence the climate is warmer and less rainy than farther north towards Pereira and Manizales. Year round, the temperature stays between 70 and 83F, only varying due to the frequency and intensity of rainfall. March-April and October-November see more frequent showers than the rest of the year, but the rainfall is normally short lived and passes very quickly.
The kitchen at Hacienda Bambusa is managed by Luz Adriana Martinez, owner of the famed restaurant “Bakkho” in nearby Calarcá. Luz brings to the kitchen a delicate and delicious menu prepared exclusively for Hacienda Bambusa's guests. Most of the ingredients are grown organically and harvested daily on the hacienda.
