Chilean Lake District Excursions
Lake District, Chile
Prices From: $683
Nature has produced a fascinating land where blue and emerald lakes, hotsprings, wild rivers, moist jungle and perfect cone volcanoes extend in a chain over 360 km (225 miles) from Pucon to Puerto Montt. In this unique landscape we find a large temperate rain forest ecosystem home to rare giant tree species (Alerce, Araucaria, Coihue, Cipres, Canelo, Palo Santo etc.), diverse birds (Chucao, Cachana, Traro etc.) and rare mammals. The lake district is also a zone of Mapuche (native Indian) reservations.
More than 10,000 years ago the gigantic glaciers of the Andes moved away from this area, spreading great barriers of rock and mire that gave birth to the lakes. The volcanoes, once below the glacier shield, became active and new ones appeared higher and with slender lines and perfect cone shapes. Then, natural jungle flowered, strong and diverse on this volcanic and porous soil.
The Chilean Lake District offers the best in outdoor sports, family vacations and soft or hard adventure. Here you can walk, trek, or hike, kayak or raft the whitewater, climb the Andes mountains, and swim in or cruise on the lakes. Every adrenaline addict will get their fix in this amazing adventure paradise of Chile.
