About Us - Green Business & Giving Back

Global Basecamps believes that a successful business, especially in the travel industry, is dependent on a healthy environment, both globally and locally. We believe that growth and corporate responsibility should work hand in hand and that capitalism and conservation are not mutually exclusive. Through our in-country partnerships we support a wide variety of local initiatives and in addition we annually contribute to small-scale projects to directly benefit community development.

Global Basecamps Globally

Planting Trees for Every Trip

With the help of our partner, Carbonfund.org, we have planted a tree for every one of our trips from the Inca Trail to the coast of Vietnam--and will continue to do so. As our travelers trek through Machu Picchu or boat through Halong Bay, we are planting trees in Nepal. Reforestation projects are one of the best ways to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that's in the atmosphere. To date, Carbonfund.org has supported SeedTree’s planting of over 315,000 trees in 21 communities throughout Nepal.

The Viña Del Mar Library and Computer Center

Estero de Platano is a small rural community in coastal Ecuador that suffers, like so much of the world, with very limited educational resources for the local children. While we were in Ecuador in 2009 we found out about the work of a Peace Corps volunteer who was trying to build a library and computer center for the local kids (and hopefully some of the adults) and it was finally completed in April 2010. The library is used on a daily basis to supplement school lessons and teach computer literacy to the local children.

Pack for a Purpose

Pack for a Purpose is a new nonprofit that seeks to improve the lives of children in need around the world, one traveler at a time. It is not a large organization, just a small, core group of individuals with a big idea that can have a huge collective impact. Pack for a Purpose provides information that empowers every traveler to make a difference by bringing along a small and much needed donation of everyday school, recreational or medical supplies to their destination – and all it takes to get involved is to visit the Web site, www.packforapurpose.org, to see how a little bit of effort really can go a long way.
