Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at the JRO Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will proceed through Customs and Immigration. Please obtain your visa if you haven't already done so (E-Visa is recommended). In the arrivals hall, you will be greeted by a local representative, who will transfer you directly to your hotel in Arusha. This drive will take around one hour, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy a comfortable start to your adventure in Africa!

Arusha

Lake Manyara Game Drive

Today, you will enter into the wonders of Lake Manyara National Park, for a day of game driving and exploration. Lake Manyara possesses unexpectedly beautiful settings and peaceful surroundings. Dramatically bordered by the sheer wall of the Rift Valley on one side and the shores of the lake on the other, this thin stretch of land features diverse habitats, that are host to a remarkable variety of wildlife. The open grasslands between the lake and the acacia woodland are littered with wildebeest, zebra, impala and giraffe, as well as the country’s densest population of buffalo.

Hadzabe & Datoga Tribal Immersion

Today, you are in for an amazing cultural experience with the local tribes of Lake Eyasi. A very early morning of traditional hunting ensures you are learning ancient customs firsthand. You are able to interact with the Hadzabe people and join in the thrill of the hunting of small mammals and preparing them to cook. You will also meet with the Datoga tribe blacksmiths to discuss their craft and interact with the local communities.

Lake Eyasi

Lake Eyasi is a scenic region located along the Rift Valley escarpment, south of the Ngorongoro Crater. Due to limited fresh water resources, the region does not attract large game populations. Eyasi instead attracts those looking to get off the beaten track who desire a unique cultural interaction experience. Here you have the opportunity to immerse yourself into the daily lives of the indigenous Hadzabe bushman and the nomadic Datoga tribe. In fact this is the only place in Africa where you can go hunting with these Hadzabe, the last known tribe that lives by hunting and gathering honey and fruit.

Ngorongoro Crater Rim Walk

Today you will transfer to the Ngorongoro conservation area for an afternoon walk around the crater rim with an armed ranger. Ngorongoro was a huge active volcano, probably larger than Kilimanjaro when the volcano erupted some 8 million years ago. Its cone collapsed leaving a crater or more appropriately a “caldera” 600m deep, 16km across and 265 sq km in area.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania's most amazing sights: a collapsed volcano which forms an incredible natural amphitheater, 25 km (16 mi) across and teeming with all of the African big game. Many of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor surrounded by some of the 20,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, eland, zebra and gazelle. Flamingo, among other bird species can often be seen feeding at Makat soda lake. This is an area of spectacular beauty and superb game viewing, a truly unique safari destination.

Day 5: Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Crater Floor Game Drive

This morning, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for game driving and exploration. Ngorongoro was a huge active volcano, probably even larger than Kilimanjaro, when the volcano erupted some 8 million years ago. It's cone collapsed, leaving a crater, or more appropriately a “caldera”, 600m deep, 16km across and 265 sq km in area. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and game viewing, in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world.

Many of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor, surrounded by some of the 20,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, eland, zebra and gazelle. Today, you will leave behind the greater Ngorongoro Conservation area, as your journey continues to the Southern Serengeti! This area is home year round to a vast variety of wildlife, which you will get to experience away from the crowds. From December to March, this area is especially known to catch a glimpse of the Great Migration.

You will spend your time here exploring the area, game viewing and you may also want to use this opportunity to visit the Olduvai Gorge. You can learn about the famous archaeological sites and visit the informative museum here, to see first hand where early human tools and fossils were discovered, including "Lucy." These incredible documents of our evolutionary history is unique to this area.

Iraqw Tribe Experience

This morning begins with a short drive to Karatu and a leisurely walking safari through farms and villages on the rift valley escarpment. You'll discover the farming, irrigation and local cattle-husbandry techniques, visit houses and, if you want, sample the local cuisine of the Iraqw tribe. You can also experience traditional wood-fired brick making, local musicians, and generally gain a deeper understanding of the lifestyle of the people who live here.

Crater Highlands

The Crater Highlands features an idyllic stopping point, on the journey from Tarangire and Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. Perched on the rim of the collapsed volcano, the Ngorongoro Crater, a world heritage site, often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. It has the most magnificent views over the crater floor, which is home to vast herds of buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, the rare and endangered black rhino, elephant, cheetah, leopard, lion and herds of gazelle and wildebeest. Its position on the Eastern rim allows the most spectacular and uninterrupted views of the sunset. All of the 91 double bedrooms are very spacious and each has two queen sized beds and a separate dressing area. Each room has a glass fronted veranda, where you may enjoy a private view of the Crater. The lodge also has 6 single rooms, all of which have a queen sized bed and glass fronted sliding doors.

Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp

Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp

Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp brings you close to the action and its unique location is determined each season, according to the dynamic movements of the wildebeest mega herds. From December to March, Nasikia is situated at the Small Marsh campsite in Ndutu, where you will find yourself in the midst of the short-grass grazing season with calving during late January. From July to October, the camp is located near Kitchwa Tembo at Kogatende in the northern Serengeti - an ideal position from which to see the herd brave the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River. The mobile camp is comprised of 8-12 solar powered tents made from heavy duty safari rip-stop canvas. Each tent has a spacious bedroom and patio area for relaxing. The bathroom includes a ceramic wash basin with running water, a supply of natural based bathroom products, and a flushing toilet. Shower under the African skies with a 20 liter shower bucket put up on a pulley system as you require. The camp provides guests with a Lounge Tent complete with library to relax in and a large Dining Tent to enjoy sumptuous bush cuisine, cooked up by the camp chefs from fresh produce taken from all corners of Tanzania.
