A Bit About Authentic Trips to Thailand

Thailand a top destination for honeymoons, families, solo tour travelers, and couples alike. The diversity of landscapes and activities, the rich history and archaeological ruins, opportunities for cultural immersion, nightlife, and relaxing atmosphere are all reasons why trips and tours to Thailand are great for any taste and price. From the pristine beaches and small islands of the south, to the temples and jungles of the north, and the many opportunities to get off the beaten path in between, Thailand trips do not disappoint either the rookie or expert traveler.

When to Go

While Thailand's seasons vary throughout different parts of the country, generally speaking there are three main seasons: hot, cool, rainy. Generally speaking, the best time to visit most of Thailand is between November and February - after the rainy season, but before the hot season. This is also the time during which the majority of Thailand’s festivals take place like Lai Krathong. This full moon festival is known for the beautiful decorated baskets - often lit up by tea-lights- that are sent to float down local rivers.

As for the worst time to visit Thailand? There truly isn’t a bad time to go, but it should be noted that some seasons do have their drawbacks like torrential downpours or overcrowded tourist destinations. It is worth noting that Monsoon season is in full swing between July and the end of October. However, if you do choose to travel during this time, you’ll be greeted with much more pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists.

Where to Go

Thailand, which lies in the center of mainland Southeast Asian can be broken up into three regions: Northern Thailand, Central Thailand, and Southern Thailand. Each of these areas possesses its own noteworthy features and is sure to satisfy your wanderlust. Read on below for an overview of some of our more popular destinations for our trips to Thailand.

Bangkok Tours:
Most Thailand tours begin or end in Bangkok. The country’s capital has a convenient central location as well as two airports: Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport While it may have a reputation for rivaling the traffic of megacities like Hong Kong, there are thousands of hidden treasures that make Bangkok worth at least spending a few days exploring. Aside from the standardl must-see list - The Grand Palace, Wat Pho and its famous 43 meter reclining Buddha, and Wat Arun to name a few - Bangkok is home to a plethora a unique sites. From thriving art communities and music scenes to seemingly unlimited delicious street food options, you’ll be able to absorb the high-brow and everyday culture all in one shot. In Bangkok, is one of the few places you’ll find cosmopolitan malls and modern buildings juxtaposed against ancient glittering temples. If you’re looking to flex your shopping muscles, we suggest braving the massive, open Chatuchak market. There you’ll find endless stalls of everything from Buddha statues to home decor goods and musical instruments. Take a Longtail boat tour of the Klongs, (stilted homes on the Chao Phraya River) or buy a boat day pass for an easy hop-on-hop-off exploration of the riverside neighborhoods, closeby nightlife, floating markets and ancient temples. Explore Bangkok’s many landscaped parks, people-watch around Soi Cowboy, or find a rooftop bar for a cocktail with a view - this exciting, bustling city has something to offer every traveler.

Chiang Mai Tours:
No trip to Thailand would be complete without a visit to this laid-back, artsy city and its jungle surroundings. The old city still sits inside the ancient walls that once protected it, and gorgeous, properly maintained temples are around every corner. The most famous temple - Doi Suthep - stands glittering gold at just under 5,500 feet elevation, and provides panoramic views of the city. It’s easy enough to ride a bike or scooter around, or take tuk-tuks or Songthaews (red pickup trucks that function as communal hop on, hop off taxis which allow you to easily explore on your own terms). Visit the University on the lake, explore the charming local Sompet market, or check out the hipster neighborhood of 1 Nimman. Come nightfall and you’ll witiness Chiang Mai’s busy outdoor markets come to life with an abundance of street food stalls and bars to choose from. If your schedule permits, we recommend cruising by the famous Sunday Night Market - a stretch of stalls with epic deals on handmade, local artisanal crafts that begins all the way at Tha Pae Gate to Ratchadamnoen Road. You’re stroll will be punctuated with live musicians along the way adding to the atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a day-trip, venture an hour or two outside of Chiang Mai and your options for Thailand tours just multiply. Zipline adventures, elephant rescue sanctuaries, hilltribe experiences in Lahu, Lisu, and Karen villages, towering waterfalls and natural slides, the hot springs and coffee plantations of Chiang Dao, cycling tours of the countryside, the stunning Hariphunchai and Chamdevi temples of Lamphun, the Queen’s Garden at Doi Inthanon National Park -the list of potential excursions and activities is endless!

Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son Tours:
Chiang Rai, most famous for the White Temple, is the northernmost large city of Thailand and lies near the Myanmar border. The White Temple, or Wat Rong Khun, is a pure white, ornately carved piece of art designed by Chaloemchai Kositpipat. He also designed the golden clocktower which lights up the center of the city. Both pieces are certainly enough of a draw for most travelers to include Chiang Rai in their Thailand tours, but if you still aren’t sold there is also the Baan Dam Museum - or Black House - a garden complex with some 40 buildings designed in traditional but Gothic style. Mae Hong Son, alternatively, is a great option for those wishing to relax in the countryside for a few days. Pai, which is situated right on a river, is the most visited town in this region. Beyond relaxation, this beautiful mountain town has much to offer including hikes, waterfalls, yoga, and delicious healthy food options.

Phang Nga Bay and Islands Tours:
On the Andaman Sea side of Thailand lies Phang Nga Bay, which is home to Krabi, Koh Lanta, Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai, Khao Sok National Park, and Phuket. Of all the beach and island destinations available on south Thailand tours, this area really stands out. The beauty of Phi Phi is here, but the crowds aren’t. The Thai Bay is full of small tiny islands, making it perfect for island hopping tours. The marine life makes for great snorkeling, and the limestone karsts against the verdant green jungle and sapphire sea create dramatic photo opportunities. Rock climbing is also a popular activity in the area, as well as cave exploration by canoe, kayaking. Of course if you’re instead looking to spend your days relaxing on the beach, you’ll have plenty of pristine sandy white islands where you can indulge in a juicy read while you take in the sun and sites. With so many nooks and crannies to explore and activities to choose from, the main attraction of this area is the stunning beauty of the landscape, which never gets old!

What to Bring

Recommended items for trips to Thailand are quick-drying active-wear, swimsuits, long pants and a shoulder wrap for temples, flip flops, running shoes, sun protection, insect repellent, and water shoes with grip bottoms for waterfall hikes. Skincare products on offer in pharmacies and drug stores in Thailand tend to have different ingredients than in the west, and may aggravate the skin - so do remember to bring all of your toiletries. Otherwise, leave lots of room in your luggage for Thai handicrafts and curry paste!
