Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Bangkok Arrival

Welcome to Bangkok! On arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport you will be transferred to your hotel for your first night in this vibrant city.

Overnight: Adelphi Suites Bangkok

Day 2 - Bangkok

Today you have a free morning to get over your travel fatigue. You may feel like spending it by the pool or treating yourself to a spa treatment. In the afternoon you will be met at the hotel by your own English speaking tour guide for a city tour of Bangkok.

Bangkok is gaining recognition for its art, culture, food, shopping, hospitality and affordability. The city combines some of Asia’s oldest and most elaborately adorned temples with modern shopping malls and skyscrapers – a city that packs in so many sights and attractions you won’t know where to begin. However, your friendly and knowledgeable local leader will give you a helping hand and introduce you to some of Bangkok’s most famous sights - including the impressive Grand Palace (former residence of the Thai monarchy), Wat Phra Kaew (home of the Emerald Buddha) and Wat Po (housing Thailand’s largest reclining Buddha at 46m long & 15m high). Today, rather than sitting on a tour bus, you will travel like a local using a number of varied transport options. See life from the river aboard a klong (or canal) boat or the city from above on the elevated BTS or Skytrain. In the evening your guide will be happy to recommend some great restaurants or even escort you for some delicious Thai food.

Overnight: Adelphi Suites Bangkok (Breakfast included)

Day 3 - Ayutthaya

This morning your guide will meet you at the hotel for a trip to Ayutthaya via the floating market. Have a wander around the market and marvel at the boats packed full of fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, souvenirs, clothes, purses, silk, wood and local food and snacks cooked on and served from the boats. Be ready to barter! The original canals which now make up the Floating Market were built in 1866 on demand of His Majesty the King of Thailand to help ease communication in the province. The actual Floating Market started in 1967 and still thrives today.

You will then head through rich farming lands to Ayutthaya, the former capital of old Siam. Now a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site, Ayutthaya was once the thriving capital city of the Kingdom of Siam, in 1765 the Burmese invaded Siam and laid siege to the city for 2 years before eventual victory. Following the victory the Siamese established a new capital in 1769 in Thonburi on the banks of the Chao Praya River. A few years later the capital was shifted to the other side of the river where a small village called Bangkok was situated and Thonburi is now a suburb of Bangkok.

Overnight: Adelphi Suites Bangkok (Breakfast included)

Day 4 - Bangkok - Chiang Mai

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight to Chiang Mai. On arrival in Chiang Mai you will be transferred to your hotel and the remainder of the afternoon is free. Chiang Mai - or ‘New City’, as its name translates to from Thai is a moated city with the extraordinary backdrop of Doi Suthep, a 1,676-meter mountain peak that is definitely worth a visit while you are here. There are some great cooking schools to try your hand at Thai cooking, or take a stroll around the old city and visit some of the beautiful old temples – there is plenty to see and do. This evening you should pop down to the night market for some dinner and shopping.

Overnight: Siripanna Resort (Breakfast included)

Day 5 - Patara Elephant Camp

You will be met in the lobby of your hotel at 7:30am and transferred to the Patara Elephant Farm outside of Chiang Mai (group basis). At the farm you will be given your mahout outfit and a brief talk on handling the elephants before heading into the bush to find them. As the day goes on you will hear all about elephant farm management and the breeding program taking place here. You will meet the elephants and learn to approach them and work with them from the ground and then take them to the river for their morning bath. After a short ride to a local temple you can learn about elephants in Buddhism and the Thai’s ancient relationship with these traditional beasts of burden. Around mid-day you will set off for a ride through the jungle to some waterfalls where you will enjoy a picnic lunch and a swim with your elephant in the falls. Return to the camp in the afternoon and say goodbye to your new friends before being transferred back to your hotel.

Overnight: Siripanna Resort (Breakfast included)

Days 6 - Chiang Mai

Enjoy this free day at your leisure in Chiang Mai.

There are many things to do in Chiang Mai, including spending a day just walking around the old town, visiting the temples, stopping for coffee breaks and exploring the markets. If you want to do something different you could try The Flight of the Gibbon – one of the longest zip lines in Thailand – swing through the canopy of this beautiful jungle for a bird’s eye view. Day trips are offered out to various factories e.g. umbrella, silk and furniture so you can see the process and buy straight from the manufacturer.

Overnight: Siripanna Resort (Breakfast included)

Day 7 - Chiang Mai - Phuket

Today you say good bye to Chiang Mai as you head for the beaches of the south of Thailand to the delightful town of Phuket. From Chiang Mai Gate you’ll be transferred to the airport for the flight to Phuket and then transferred to Kata beach where you will spend the next 2 days. The pleasant bay of Kata is blessed with white sands and clear waters and is a favorite due to its spectacular palm-lined beach, great restaurants, lively but not raucous nightlife and varied accommodation options - all close to the beach. Kata is split into two focal areas: Kata Center, which is at the northern end close to Karon and Kata South, home to several resorts. You will find an abundance of shops to browse in as well as plentiful restaurants and bars.

Overnight: Avista Karon Resort Phuket (Breakfast included)

Day 8 - 9 Phuket

There are plenty of optional tours you can do to fill the days if you want to do more than lie on the beach. Paddle yourself with a sit-on-top kayak at Krabi Klong Talen's 'Mangrove Maze' a chain of rock gardens, limestone canyons and semi-hongs filled with mangroves and plenty of wildlife. You’ll paddle through a 500ft channel where you have a good chance of spotting monkeys, eagles, lizards etc. There will be lunch before you paddle back to the pier and then on to the hotel. Enjoy a day tour of the tiger temple, the Emerald Pool and hot springs and then top it off with an elephant ride.

Overnight: Avista Karon Resort Phuket (Breakfast included)

Days 10 - 12 - Phuket - Koh Phi Phi

Today you’ll be transferred by boat and bus to the famous island of Phi Phi where you stay for the next 4 nights. Your days are free to enjoy the resort, spa and beach, or choose from the excursions and day tours below. Koh Phi Phi is a small island and easy to explore. The view point is a great spot for a morning or late afternoon walk and to admire the island and its surroundings.

Snorkeling: There are some great snorkeling spots right off the beach or we can organize a tour by long tail boat to Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island. You can expect to see a wide variety of tropical fish like parrot and clown fish and you may even be lucky enough to see the harmless but impressive leopard shark. Tours also go to offshore reefs which contain more unusual marine life.

Beach Hopping: Life is very laid back on Phi Phi Island, and despite the variety of activities available, there is very little pressure to get out and do anything! You can wander from your room to the beach and lie in the sun until your particular beach gets boring. Make time for a 15 minute trip to some protected inlet to find a new little beach or place to eat.

Phi Phi Island boat tour: Go to some of the most spectacular spots in southern Thailand, such as Maya Bay (made famous by Leonardo Dicaprio’s, The Beach), Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, Ao Pileh, Hin Klang and Loh Samah Bay. You’ll have lunch on a beach and the opportunity for more snorkeling.

Kayaking: Loh Dalum Bay is the place you can rent kayaks per hour, half day or all day if you want to explore the coast of Phi Phi yourself. Half and full day guided sea kayak trips can be arranged from beginner to intermediate level. It is fun, safe and an environmentally-friendly way to discover the spectacular rock formations featuring hidden caves and passages, or along a network of canyons or mangrove-lined backwaters.

Overnight: P.P. Erawan Palms Resort (Breakfast included)

Day 13 - Koh Phi Phi - Bangkok

This morning you’ll be transferred back to the pier for the boat to the mainland and then on to Phuket airport for your flight back to Bangkok and your international connection.
