This once-in-a-lifetime itinerary takes you on a journey through varied and colorful Peru. Explore the Sacred Valley with its famous sites of Ollyantambo and the Pisac Market, chill out in the colonial town of Cusco, then spend 4 days trekking the incredible Inca Trail to access Machu Picchu. Afterwards visit the rich Peruvian Amazon for a 4 day adventure in the Tambopata Reserve. End your trip in the vibrant coastal city of Lima. Our custom itineraries provide you with the flexibility to book as much or as little as you want and maximize your time in Peru.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Lima Arrival

Upon arrival in Lima, you will pick up your luggage at the baggage carousel before walking across the skybridge to the Ramada Costa Del Sol to check in for the evening.

Day 2 - Lima - Cusco

In the morning you will make your way back to the airport for your flight to Cusco (flight only included upon request). Upon arrival in Cusco our representatives will meet you and take you to to your luxury hotel, La Casona Inkaterra.

Day 3 - Cusco

Cusco itself represents the center of indigenous Quechua culture in the Andes, and by merely walking the streets one sees the layers of history. Spanish colonial buildings erected directly atop Inca walls line the square, while the modern tourist nightlife flourishes in their midst. Nowadays, Cusco is known for its indigenous population--often seen on the streets in traditional clothing.

We then head out of Cusco to visit the main Inca ruins in the Cusco valley, visiting Tambo Machay, Puca Pucara, Kenko, Sacsayhuaman and some lesser known ruins as well. These impressive sites serve as a great introduction to Inca history, and by walking around them, you will continue to acclimate to the high altitude. After your tour you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

Day 4 - Cusco - Sacred Valley

Enjoy a full day private tour to the Sacred Valley. The Sacred Valley Peru is understood to be the land that extends between the towns of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. This past heart of the Inca Empire starts just 10 miles outside of Cusco, and trips here reward visitors with incomparable Inca ruins, stunning Andes Mountains vistas, charming towns, a good climate, and plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the countryside. This full-day excursion includes a visit to the famous Pisac Market and Ollantaytambo fortress. In the late afternoon you will check in to your nearby hotel, Tambo del Inka.

Day 5 - Sacred Valley - Inca Trail

This morning begin the Inca Trail trek! A spectacular early morning drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas takes us to our trailhead at Km. 82 of the Machu Picchu railroad. After getting acquainted with our trail crew we set out, crossing a footbridge to hike a gentle two hours down the Urubamba canyon, and then visit imposing sculpted Inca farming terraces and the settlement of Llaqtapata on the banks of the Cusichaca side river. We then climb a short way up the Cusichaca valley to Huayllabamba, the last inhabited village on the trail, where we camp.

Day 6 - Inca Trail

We climb the steep-sided Llullucha valley past a rushing stream and through enchanted native polylepis woodland. Crossing the rim of a small plateau, we abruptly find ourselves in the puna, the treeless grasslands of the high Andes. The trail traverses an open slope opposite mighty mountain crags as we ascend to the first and highest pass, Warmiwañusca (4,200m/13,776ft). Here we encounter spectacular views of the trail ahead to the second pass, and look back to the sweeping snowpeaks and valleys of the Huayanay massif. We follow the trail to the floor of the forested Pacaymayo valley, where we make camp.

Day 7 - Inca Trail

We pick up an Inca stairway and ascend again past the small Inca site of Runkuracay. As we reach the second pass, the landscape opens onto spectacular new views to the snowpeaks of the Pumasillo range. We descend to the ruins of Sayacmarca (Inaccessible Town), an intricate labyrinth of houses, plazas and water channels, perched precariously on a rocky spur overlooking the Aobamba valley. The Inca trail, now a massive buttressed structure of granite paving stones, continues along the steep upper fringes of the cloud forest through a colorful riot of orchids, bromeliads, mosses and ferns. At the third pass pinnacles topped with Inca viewing platforms overlook the archaeological complex of Phuyupatamarca (Cloud-level Town).

Day 8 - Inca Trail - Aguas Calientes

We explore the wondrous maze of Inca stone towers, fountains and stairways spilling down the mountainside at Phuyupatamarca then begin a long descent through ever-changing layers of cloud forest. An Inca stairway partly cut from living granite leads us finally to the site of Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young), the largest and most exquisite of the Inca Trail sites. In the afternoon we follow the last stretch of trail across a steep mountainside through a lush, humid cloud-forest of giant ferns and broad-leaf vegetation. Suddenly we cross the stone threshold of Intipunku (Sun Gate) and encounter an unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry –a backdrop of twisting gorge and forested peaks framing the magical city of Machu Picchu. After enjoying your first visit of Machu Picchu, enjoy dinner and full nights rest at Inkaterra Machu Picchu.

Day 9 - Machu Picchu

We return to Machu Picchu by bus and spend the day in both guided and individual exploration, visiting the most fascinating features of this astounding and mysterious Inca settlement. Some will want to take the optional hike to the summit of Wayna Picchu for an amazing overview of the site, while others may want to investigate Machu Picchu’s multitude of hidden nooks and corners. After a full-on experience of this glorious monument to the Inca achievement, we return to your hotel, Inkaterra Machu Picchu.

Day 10 - Aguas Calientes - Cusco

After a delicious breakfast, discover the indulgences, amenities and excursions that await, on your Machu Picchu vacation. Nature activities abound, but ideal itineraries might include an Andean eucalyptus sauna, followed by massage or a star-lit plunge pool dip. In the afternoon your private local guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the train station en route to Poroy. In the evening you will check back in at La Casona Inkaterra for a full nights rest, before your exciting Amazon adventure.

Day 11 - Cusco

Enjoy this day at leisure after your hike on the Inca Trail and before departing for the Amazon Jungle.

Day 12 - Cusco - Tambopata

We will transfer you for an early morning flight to Puerto Maldonado (flight only included upon request). Our staff will welcome you at the airport and you will register at the Butterfly House. From there we'll drive to the Tambopata River boat dock. After a scenic boat ride, you will arrive at the majestic Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Enjoy the Trail System adventure and the Twilight River excursion or the nature presentation at the Eco Center with available cocktails. Travelling to Tambopata National Reserve offers a rare opportunity to discover a lively biodiversity of birds, mammals, reptiles, insects and trees. Enjoy a a delicious dinner as you marvel at the incredible surrounding environment. After some stargazing fall asleep to the sounds of the Madre de Dios River, from your comfortable cabana.

Day 13 - Tambopata

After breakfast you'll set off for a full day of activities including: an excursion to Lake Sandoval, the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, and the Anaconda Walk. You'll get a chance to see the record-setting numbers of animal species are concentrated within small areas, and the variety of plant life is greater than almost anywhere in the world. After dinner you'll have another chance to spot caiman on the lake, or perhaps take a night trail walk in search of the numerous creatures, including frogs, toads, owls, nighthawks, spiders and night monkeys, that make the forest such a busy and different place during the night.

Day 14 - Tambopata

Enjoy a trip to Gamitana Creek, located 25 minutes by boat from the Inkaterra Lodge. For one and a half hours, explore the rain forest along the banks of a winding, dark-water creek that is home to many piranha, caiman, turtles and birds, until the Sanipanga landing point. Navigate your way back downstream, appreciating the abundant flora and fauna along the way.You will return to Gamitana Farm to do a short guided tour to see how local farmers raise fruits and vegetables. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon pamper yourself with a spa service. Day 15 - Tambopata - Lima

Enjoy a full breakfast before departure. A 45-minute return trip by boat on the Madre de Dios River takes you to Puerto Maldonado, where you may visit Inkaterra Butterfly House, before your flight back to Lima (flight only included upon request). Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, with 3,700 known species. Many of these can be seen at the Butterfly House, as how case for the variety, beauty and adaptability of these fascinating insects. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Lima (flights included upon request)

On arrival in Lima, you will be transferred from the hotel and check in at the B Arts Boutique Hotel located in the artistic neighborhood of Barranco. Part of this property’s appeal its neighborhood, which remains largely undiscovered by international travelers. The tourism boom there has transformed the country entirely, and the Barranco district is a perfect microcosm of the change. What was once a wealthy neighborhood fell into squalor during the late 20th century, and only in the past ten years has the area transformed. Day 16 - Lima

Lima, the capital city of Peru, is a cosmopolitan and vibrant metropolis with a beautiful and historical center that boasts exquisite buildings dating back to colonial times.
