If you wish to escape large resort destinations, to walk a never-ending beach each morning, and truly experience life on a small Caribbean island, then Xaloc at Holbox, Mexico´s newest cool island hideaway hotel, is the place for you. Don´t expect all-night discos or heavy-traffic downtown areas – they just don´t exist here. Holbox is about the subtle, quiet, simple pleasures of life.
Xaloc Resort consists of 18 romantic rooms distributed in 2 groups of 9 rooms built around their swimming pool. Each of the rooms is a bungalow or an individual "palapa", surrounded by a wooden terrace with the traditional Yucatecan hammocks, perfect for an afternoon siesta. In each room there is a king-size bed or 2 double beds, covered by a big mosquito canopy, ceiling ventilator and a spacious bathroom with two sinks, shower and water toilet.
Relax on the terrace in your hammock or slip into the beach-side pool. A game and reading room can also be found above the full-service restaurant. Activities include swimming, snorkeling, fishing, boat excursions, bird-watching or exploring the small village of Holbox.
Xaloc is located on this small island at the end of a long, narrow sand spit, just above Cancun. It´s as close as you can get to Cuba and other Caribbean destinations while staying in Mexico. The inside of this spit creates a protected estuary highly populated with birds and exotic wildlife.
