The Great Wall, The Silk Road, and China's Modern Cities - Prices from $2,085
China as a civilization has been on earth for longer than just about every other. This is what one needs to keep in mind as they dive headlong into this daunting, diverse, and fascinating place. The booming population of the 20th century has led directly into a 21st century renaissance of economy, philosophy, culture and internationalism.
China is changing drastically as we speak, and we can't guarantee that your trip last year will be identical to your trip next year, and that should excite you. Some things will be there until the end of time: the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Terracotta Warriors. But we can be certain that you will only be scratching the surface on your first, second, and third trips to this wonderful country. (And that's a good thing.)
Global Basecamps is offering exclusive itineraries for trips to China. Call us now at (866) 577 2462 or submit the form to start planning your China Adventure!

The Great Wall - All To YourselfThere are a lot of extremes describing the Great Wall of China. Its physical immensity, its age, its artistry and architecture, all add up to an unforgettable experience. So much so in fact, that tens of thousands of tourists see it every day. Global Basecamps travelers avoid the crowds. While everyone else congests the fully restored parts of the Wall, our travelers venture off the beaten path. There are sections of the Great Wall very near Beijing that are avoided entirely by most travelers. These sections are in their original state, and though they have not been maintained for hundreds of years, the vistas here, devoid of other hikers, are unbeatable. Get up close and personal to this Great Wall, and enjoy it all to yourself in one quiet, perfect moment after another.
China’s CitiesYou’ve heard about them and have seen them grow from across the ocean. Now you get to enjoy them yourself. The cities of China are where one finds a country ready to dominate the new century. In Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, epic skyscrapers host a population fiercely proud of their history, and equally proud of their modern accomplishments. For the traveler, this translates into a substantial, ancient culture ready to be explored. Shop like you never have before, and eat foods you’ve never imagined. After hours, join an entire city as it celebrates life in every way possible. Before you even venture beyond the urban landscape, you’ll realize that you’ll never see everything there is to see in China.
From the Silk Road to TibetThe eastern parts of China get all the press and publicity, but this is a big country you’re about to explore! Global Basecamps would like to introduce you to something different. Traveling along the ancient Silk Road that eventually led to the Mediterranean Sea, you can see a side of China that few foreigners experience. From the southern province of Yunnan, where Chinese ethnic minorities live as they have for hundreds of years, west to Tibet, the roof of the world. The food here is different, as is the music, the language, the art, and just about everything else. This is a trip away from the beaten path, away from the tourist crowds, and away from everything you thought you knew about China.
Uniquely Chinese ExperiencesThere are experiences in China that cannot be had anywhere else in the world. Global Basecamps travelers have cuddled with pandas in a breeding center, they’ve trained with Shaolin Monks in the art of Kung Fu, they’ve bicycled through jaw-dropping karst landscapes and rice fields, all the while embracing the tangible energy of a massive and growing country. Of course, every country has experiences unique to its culture. But when you begin to think about the history of China dating back to 4,000BC, the sheer size of its land, and the diversity both of these factors create, one realizes that no other country can really compete. As a travel destination, China is incomparable.
- The best time to visit China is in the summer, but each season has it's own merits. Beijing, the North and Tibet can be bitterly cold in the winter, but also less crowded, which means better rates are available. Spring and fall are great, but you need to be careful not to time your trip for the Chinese holiday weeks (similar to Japan and Vietnam).
- China is a foodie's heaven and most people have no idea about the diversity and deliciousness of real Chinese food. Come prepared to be surprised!
- China is a developing country, and contrasts in living here range from medieval to ultra-modern.
- Though it gets a lot of bad press, the Chinese government is largely not a part of a traveler's life. Police are rarely obvious like in some other developing countries, and the freedom to move independently is everywhere.
- China is one of the most diverse countries in the world. Languages and customs vary from province to province.
