For thousands of years, San Pedro de Atacama has been an oasis at which travelers have stopped for the necessary water, food, shelter and rest to continue their voyage. At this ancient site, surrounded by a historical wall which has sheltered cattle drivers and shepherds for centuries, Awasi has created a house made of stone, adobe and wood where we want to continue with the noble task of sheltering travelers who take the leap to live the unforgettable experience of the Atacama Desert. Awasi is a place for contemplating immensity, enjoying the basic details of simple life, and gratifying the body and the soul, both inside and out.

In order to ensure the privacy and comfort of its guests, Awasi only has 8 cottages, all of which are built of stone, adobe and wood. Each one has generous spaces, a private patio, a reading sofa, indoor and outdoor showers. They are unique, harmonious spaces designed for relaxation and rest.

Awasi is simply an adventure, an endless number of shapes, volcanoes, dry salt lakes, ponds and water emerging in the midst of the desert-- pure nature in it's most powerful expression. Exploring in Atacama shows the different facets of this incredible desert, its geography, its history and hamlets that bear millennial tradition and culture.

Excursions

Awasi is the only hotel in South America to assign a 4x4 Jeep with personal tour guide to each of its 8 suites. Guests select their daily excursions from an a la carte menu of tours and treks. In order to operate their excursions with comfort and safety, Awasi has a modern fleet of 4WD vehicles equipped with both communication and GPS systems, which allow them to reach places not accessible to most of the tourists who visit San Pedro de Atacama.

Some sample excursions include:

  • Treks on horseback to Barrancas, Moon Valley, Devil's Creek and more.
  • Bicycle tours of Coca Rock, Talabre Descent and Tulor
  • Mountain hikes to hot springs, desert dunes and salt flats all around the Atacama desert

The Restaurant

Awasi's restaurant is a Relais & Châteaux member, and strives to embody the essence Atacama's people and place. The chef ensures that local ingredients are showcased in every dish. The restaurant (exclusive to Awasi guests) presents a daily suggested menu, which can be modified depending on guests' tastes and needs.
