Exploration of Atacama & Torres del Paine

On this twelve day trip, explore two distinct locations in Chile. The Atacama Desert is an alien landscape, where the country's largest salt flat is a short drive away from steaming geysers, and a half day's hike away from bubbling volcanoes. From here, make your way across the country to Torres del Paine National Park, Chile's best national park. This is Patagonia at its finest, watched over by the beautiful Towers of Paine, and dotted with deep blue lakes, green hills, and white capped mountain peaks. These are the landscapes that define Chile as the final frontier. The edge of the map is rugged and wild, and a perfect playground for the adventurers-at-heart.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Santiago Arrival

Santiago Arrival
Daily Summary
  • Transportation: Airport Transfer
  • Tour: Half Day City Tour
  • Accommodation: The Singular Santiago

Welcome to Chile! Upon arrival at the airport in Santiago, a guide will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel. Get settled in and relax for a bit before heading out on your afternoon tour.

Half Day City Tour

After breakfast, you’ll be collected from your hotel by your private English-speaking guide and driver and whisked away on a half day tour of Chile’s incredible capital city.

This tour starts at the prominent market “La Vega Central”, an open market which is over 100 years and where you’ll be able to encounter local flavors, fresh fish and seafood, hidden local restaurants and a mixture of different social backgrounds, making this place a permanent spot of popular life and heritage authenticity. You’ll cross downtown Santiago, always busy and full of people, and continue towards the main square. You’ll be taken to the spectacular Pre-Columbian Art Museum, the Constitution Square and La Moneda Palace, where you’ll have the chance to stroll around while your specialized guide tells you about Santiago’s emblematic historical moments, off the beaten path stories and important details of the city. You will continue walking towards San Cristóbal Hill, also known as the lungs of the city, where you will be treated to one of the most stunning views of this city. Take a deep breath to admire the breathtaking Andes chain: a very impressive sight to capture before going back to your hotel. (This service is on a private basis.)

Atacama

From wide, flat saltpans, to jagged mountains and an overly-dry atmosphere, there are few matches to Atacama's beauty in South America. Atacama's alien landscape continues for miles and miles in every direction. Traveling here very much feels like removing oneself from society, from civilization, from everything. Its expansiveness allows for tons of activities from hiking to off roading, so despite the huge emptiness of the high plateau, you'll never run out of things to do.

Torres Del Paine

The Torres del Paine National Park was created in 1959 and in 1978 it was declared Biosphere Reverse by the UNESCO. It has approximately 227,298 hectares and altitudes that vary between 50 and 3,050 meters (10,000ft) with its main characteristics of forests, tundra, mountains, ice fields, rivers, lakes, and moraines. Its natural origin dates from 12,000 years ago, when the first settlers arrived in the “Austral” Patagonia (southernmost), followed by Tehuelches (“People of the South” in Mapudungun), who inhabited a big area of the park. The use of the land for breeding cattle and the damages that this caused in some areas made the government and community be concerned about the preservation of such a rich and attractive zone. Today, the park is home to the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
