Are you looking for beautiful white sand beaches, sparkling water, and large palm trees that shade you from the sun? Then Goa, India is the place for you!  This small slice of paradise is found on the country’s western coastline and bordered by the Arabian Sea.

Goa’s Best Kept Secret: Elsewhere

Elsewhere

Down the Chapora River, through fields of rice, chilies, and onions, down the plateau to the shoreline until a creek forces the road to turn inland is where you will find the breathtaking view of Elsewhere. This private piece of land, overlooking the ocean, is separated from the rest of the world by a salt-water creek.  Elsewhere has four charming beach houses and three exclusive tents.  Access to Elsewhere is by a private, bamboo footbridge across the creek. Escape the crowds by visiting the following truly isolated and serene lodges in Elsewhere.

The Beach Houses

Four charming houses are located on the beach of Elsewhere.  All of the houses sit directly facing the ocean.  The only footprints you’ll find on this beach other than your own are those of fisherman and turtles.   The houses have an open sitting area ideal for watching the waves crash on the shore or the stars light up the sky.  The houses are available for rent for a minimum period of one week.  Each bedroom has a large double bed.

The four houses are called the Captain’s house, the Priest’s house, the Bakery, and the Piggery. The Captain’s House was built by Dr. Francisco Joseph Sequeira, and was later inherited by Captain Cyril William Sequeira, a pioneer of aviation in India.  It has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6. The Priest’s house was built by Padre Luis Gonzaga de Santana Sequeira, who lived there until the 1950’s.  It also has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6.  The bakery was also built by Padre Luis Gonzaga de Santan Sequeira, and was used as his bakery.  It has 2 independent bedrooms that can be rented out separately.  The Piggery was an extension of the main house and is where the livestock used to be kept.  It has since been turned into a beautiful 2 bedroom villa that can sleep 4.

Elsewhere Otter Creek Tent

Otter Creek Tents

Otter Creek Tents share the same idyllic beach as the Elsewhere Beach Houses.  These 3 comfortable tents are on the beach facing the creek, which runs parallel to the sea.  Each tent sleeps 2 in a double bed and has a bathroom.  Each tent also has a bamboo jetty over the creek.  Also included in the tents are a refrigerated minibar, laundry service, a night and day watchman, and free Internet.  Further, the creek is salt water and therefore mosquito free.

The best time to visit Goa is December to February, when it is always sunny and daytime temperatures are around 75°F, and nighttime temperatures average around 68°F.  During this time, the sea is typically calm, warm, and great for swimming. For more travel tips visit our Facebook page!
