Argentina's Northwest A Cultural Excursion

This fully customizable itinerary will lead you through the culturally rich Northwest regions of Argentina. Begin your adventure in Tucumán before heading into the rural regions. You will be enjoying full days of activities such as exploring ruins and natural wonders, and spend the evenings at beautiful countryside estates as you journey from Tucumán to Salta.
Day 1 - Arrival In Tucumán - Tafi Del Valle
Today you will arrive in Tucumán via Buenos Aires. After you have settled in at your hotel, enjoy a tour of the city.
San Miguel de Tucumán is the capital city and heart of Tucumán Province. It is popularly known as "El Jardín de la República" (The garden of the Republic) because in springtime there are flowers everywhere (in parks, balconies, streets and gardens). Being the land of the sugar cane and setting of the Independence Day, San Miguel de Tucumán City provides places to visit such as Obispo Colombres’ House, the Historical House of the Independence Declaration, the outstanding Cathedral and Casa Padilla Museum.
Later you will get on the National Route across a sub-tropical jungle that leads to Tafi del Valle where you will stay for the evening.

Day 2 - Tafi Del Valle - Cafayate
Today you will head on a private excursion to Cafayate. It is the main city in the district of Cafayate and is well known because of its proximity to the famous Calchaquí Valleys which are home to the Quilmes ruins. Explore the ruins The ruins which were one of the most important pre-Hispanic settlements in Argentina and it is known that the Calchaquí tribe lived there from about 800 AD until 1666, when it was conquered by the Spanish.
Continue to visit some local wineries in Cafayate which is known for its Torrontes wine, a product of the exquisite combination of temperature and humidity that provides the ideal environment to the growth of the sweet and deep fruit flavor.

Day 3 - Cafayate - Cachi
Continue your excursion northwards by the National Route 40 to the amazing Flechas Gorge and the towns of San Carlos and Angastaco. It is possible to take a walk through the incredible multi colored rock formations of the gorge. Then visit the town of Molinos and its picturesque church. Upon arrival at the town of Cachi, enjoy a visit to its church and Archaeological Museum. You may want to enjoy a visit to Cachi Adentro area or relax in the town.

Day 4 - Cachi – Salta
Today you will head back to Salta in a private service with English speaking guide. Drive by Los Cardones National Park, the Encantado Valley and the picturesque Obispo Slope, as well as the Escoipe gorge. After arriving in Salta, enjoy a brief city tour to visit the cathedral, the Church of San Francisco and the Historic Museum of the North.

Day 5 - Salta - Purmamarca
Today you will head on a private excursion to the Salt Lakes. This excursion will give you the possibility to combine three different circuits in the Northwest of Argentina. This first, called the “Way of the Clouds” will lead you through the “Quebrada del Toro” (Bull’s Ravine) and up to San Antonio de los Cobres. Continue through the Puna to Salinas Grandes of Jujuy. Finally, you will head downhill to Lipan which will take you to the picturesque village of Purmamarca at the base of the Seven Colors Hill. Here you will have time to visit the handicraft market and walk around the village.

Day 6 - Purmamarca – Humahuaca - Salta
Today you will head to Tilcara to visit the archeological museum and the Pucara ruins, an age old aboriginal fortress. You will head through Huacalera and Uquia as you make your way to Humahuaca, the largest and most important city in this region. Walk around this picturesque town before returning to Salta in the afternoon.

Day 7 - Salta - Buenos Aires Departure
After breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your domestic flight to Buenos Aires to connect with your outbound flight.
Estancias Las Carreras
Jesuit Estancia Las Carreras is set in a landscape of exceptional beauty, only 12km from Tafí del Valle, in the province of Tucumán in the northwest region of Argentina.
