A basecamp is a property that truly helps you explore an area on short day trips. Many people do not have the time or resources for long term travel. Our goal at Global Basecamps is to create the same experiences, discovery, and flexibility inherent in long trips and enable travelers to do it in a shorter time frame. We believe that the best way to really discover a place is to find the perfect hotel, lodge or property and use it as a home base for exploring the surrounding area. Our basecamps have been chosen because of their location, helpful and knowledgeable staff and dedication to the local environment.
How do the excursions work?
In most cases excursions are private multi-day trips led by knowledgeable local guides and showcase the true nature of each country. Whenever an excursion has set dates of departure or is designed for small groups this information will be highlighted in the description.
How difficult are the excursions?
Although we call our excursions “active adventure” the vast majority are suitable for anyone in good health and require no special skills or training. If specific skills are necessary they will either be outlined in the description or taught during the excursion.
Do I have to book every night of my trip?
No, you do not need to book every night of your trip. Travel at your own pace by pre-booking as much or as little as you’d like. We can design completely customized itineraries mapping out your whole trip or we can simply help you find a few accommodations or excursions so that your trip priorities are met and you have maximum flexibility while on the road. We recommend booking at least the first couple of nights in a new destination and then leaving time to explore or travel from point to point without any commitments.
What if I need to get in touch with you while I’m traveling?
You can call or e-mail us at any time and we will be happy to assist you. If you have an emergency and it is after normal business hours our call center will give you prompts to reach one of our representatives 24-7.
Are the basecamps and excursions eco-friendly?
We take eco-certification very seriously and although most of our properties are “green” in many ways only basecamps that have been certified by internationally recognized organizations can be considered eco-certified. Basecamps that are not certified but have a proven commitment to the environment are labeled accordingly. All of our in-country partners demonstrate sustainable travel practices for every excursion that they lead.
Are your basecamps and excursions kid friendly?
The basecamps and excursions that are suitable for children under 14 are listed as “family friendly” in the amenities bar.
Do I need travel insurance?
We feel that it is imperative that you travel with at least very basic travel insurance consisting of trip cancellation/interruption and emergency evacuation insurance to protect yourself. The only thing worse then something going very wrong and ending a trip early is ending a trip early and then not being able to get home or get any money back for the unused portion of the trip. See the Travel Insurance section of Travel 101 for more information.
Can I make changes after I’ve made a booking?
Although there is no guarantee that there will be availability when making date changes to a basecamp or excursion we are more than happy to assist you in making any necessary changes to your itinerary. Our basecamps and excursions may charge change fees depending on the seasonality and amount of time before the arrival date and some have very strict cancellation and change rules. Contact us directly for more information.
When is my reservation confirmed?
Immediately following your booking request you will receive a confirmation e-mail from us. Some of our basecamps and excursions may require up to 48 hours to confirm a reservation due to the remoteness of their location. We will send you another e-mail once all of the booking requests have been confirmed and your credit card has been charged.
Is my credit card charged immediately?
We will only charge your card when all of the basecamp and excursion reservations have been confirmed for your dates. At this time a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you with the total billed to your card.
Are online bookings safe and secure?
Yes. Your credit card security is our highest priority. Our servers use the highest level of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption available. This encryption makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to read any information that you send us.
Did you know that for every trip we sell, we have a tree planted? Reforestation projects are one of the best ways to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, so travel responsibly by choosing Global Basecamps.
With the help of our partner, Carbonfund.org, we also offset our company's entire carbon footprint each year.
Interested in offsetting your entire trip? Let us know! We are currently working to provide full carbon offsetting options for every trip.
Client Testimonials
The Galapagos cruise was wonderful. Thank you so much for arranging the upgrade, too!
We like snorkeling with the penguins, hammerhead sharks and rays. We also really enjoyed the hikes and scenery on the cruise. The Charles Darwin Research Station was a treat, too.
Julie, Galapagos Cruise
I went in to this with the attitude of ok, I'd like to go around the world but I have no idea what to do or where to start. Global Basecamps stepped in and created a trip I will never forget. Every excursion that was arranged for this trip was so different because the plans and excursions took place in so many different countries. The three days I spent at the FCC Angkor Hotel in Cambodia were perhaps one of the most relaxing on this entire trip. I never ever worried nearly as much as I would have if I had done this trip on my own. It was and is an incredible relief to have great people looking out for you when you're in a foreign country and Global Basecamps hooked up with some truly exceptional agencies and people.
